winterseaspray: (surprise)

Oh look, another end of year and here I am, just remembering to do this. KIDDING. I started this on the 18th, but am finishing tonight.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Plenty relating to my job. I've completely reversed my sleep schedule, can run a purification operation basically by myself. I work a full time job where I get benefits. I am finically independent, and actually make more then my parents. I took ownership of a car.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I managed to read more, or at least, to try and read more. I restarted my Audible account and have been trying out all sorts of new books in fiction and non-fiction. I've been bad at recording them though. Editing a novel, and setting a schedule -- those have failed. I don't know if I'll make resolutions. Probably not, except to just keep going and keep trying to get better.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, I don't think so anyways.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, luckily.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. I did go to Florida in July (stupid time to go, but I wanted to see Carolyn). It was good to travel again.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Real life friends. I have some really great online friends (which is good considering my job), but in real life, I'm lacking. How are adults supposed to make friends? I have to work on it this year though. For one thing, Kat's probably going to move out at some point, and I need to practice this stuff or else it will be overwhelming when I do try. I need to do more things in the writing community I guess. Go to a conference perhaps. If I can manage it.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No specific dates. I'll remember the shootings. I had a really strong response to Aurora and Newtown for some reason. I mean, everyone had a strong response, but I spent a good deal of time crying for people I don't know, and getting angry at people I do know and those I don't. More later.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I did well at my job. I've been told I did really well, and I learn quickly (it takes six months to train a typical trainee, I got it in four). Its nice to know I'm am capable. Especially considering I am the only woman in my department and have been called "a little girl" by some of the guys. I can move 600 kg vessels by myself thank you.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not editing my novel. Not working on any solitary projects for my writing. I've been so involved in RP and collaborative efforts, I'm not sure I remember how to do it by myself.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
No. I mean, I got something flu like in July, but that's about it.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Ummmm..... I think I'm going to skip these two questions. I don't like them a bit.

14. Where did most of your money go?
My car. It's wicked expensive to own a car. Oh, also bedding. SHUT UP KAT, I LIKE MY BED TO BE PRETTY.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Hobbit? Kind of the Dark Knight. Vacations. Silly things on the board.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Probably "Somebody that I Used to Know". I listened to that song waaaaay too much this year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
b) fatter or skinner? fatter
c) richer or poorer? richer!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I don't know, I guess done more with my time off, though I'm feeling pretty good about this last year. Working has given me something of a direction.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I should probably say RP, but I actually don't wish I'd done less of it.

20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
I was at work Christmas. Technically, I slept most of Christmas. I'm not a big Christmas person though, so I don't really mind.

21. Did you fall in love in 2012?

22. How many one night stands?
Zero. I want to delete this question please.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
What did I fall in love with this year? New I think Legend of Korra, though its a leap to say its my favorite. I'm back to enjoying Grey's Anatomy, despite the fact that its not a good show. 30 Rock was amusing this year. I think I may have to start watching Parks and Recreation properly. That was amusing when I heard it while Josh watched it.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

25. What was the best book you read?
The Lover's Dictionary by David Leviathan.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year?
Ed Sheeran. Oh or Fun. I can't decide. I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH.

27. What did you want and get?
A new computer. That I paid for myself. Dude, its crazy how amazing that feels.

28. What did you want and not get?
Nothing really.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Oh... uh... The Avengers probably. A desert of wit indeed Whedon you sly dog.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had strawberry shortcake with Kat and Alex.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I don't know...

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Jeans and t-shirts. Mostly cause that's what I wear to work (I work with corrosive chemicals, jeans are basically required).

33. What kept you sane?
Writing. And the kittens.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Martin Freeman. He's so *squidges*

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gun control, I guess. Considering the fact that I work with a bunch of republican gun owners, my desire for there to be more gun control made going to work difficult. I wanted to smash things.

36. Who do you miss?
My college friends. My cousins. I have officially said I would go back to England this year at some point, and my eldest cousin, Faith, is getting married, so it seems like the right time for it.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

38. What was the best thing you ate?
My birthday cake. Yum.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012?
Standing up for what you believe in doesn't necessarily negate the fact that you are trying to treat people the way you want to be treated. Your needs don't get sublimated to theirs. You also have to treat yourself like you want to be treated.
