winterseaspray: (surprise)
[personal profile] winterseaspray
Seventh year in a row doing this. Now it seems like I just have to do it, so do it I shall. Anyways, here is my end of year wrap up, as started the day after Christmas while waiting for Thai food in my roommateless apartment.

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
I drove across the country, quit a well paying job, did something entirely stupid and reckless, started taking improv classes, made choices and decisions, came to a better understanding of myself, and basically -- did shit.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last years resolutions were gym, once a week, and 52 books in 52 weeks. The gym thing I did not do, but I did begin to walk 10,000 steps a day in March, and have only a handful of days since then when I did not hit that mark. So I can't tell, did I achieve that one? Not by the letter, but in the intent. 52 in 52 actually worked out well. I was done with the challenge in September, and am now working on getting to 100 books by the end of the year (only 11 more to go! HA, I feel like this might not happen, but still...).

Next years resolutions will be similar. Walking 10,000 steps a day, working on the running/swimming/other exercise thing. Reading -- everything and anything. I'm thinking I could potentially read a book every two days if I focused, which comes out to 182 books in the year. This number does seem a bit high, as I've only just managed to get through 89 books, and the 89th I'm still working on. However! 120 books might be more in my wheelhouse. Even if they aren't all Animorphs books. Goodreads, the challenge shall be 120 in a year. Let's see if I can make that happen.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I don't think so....

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My great-aunt died. I wasn't particularly close to her, but she was my grandmother's twin, so there's that. It was quite upsetting for my grandmother. My childhood best friend's grandmother died recently as well, which was quite sad.

5. What countries did you visit?
I didn't leave America, but I have now been to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Arizona (BTW, Utah, amazingly beautiful. Huge secret as I thought Utah was really boring before for some reason? Nope, all the best state parks are there). This leaves only a few states in the deep South and some midwestern states left before I've gone to every USA state (except Alaska and Hawaii). Score?

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
Uh... Money? I guess. I mean, I saved up quite a bit so I could take some time off for writing, but then it all went to general living expenses. I mean, who needs to pay rent?

7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Oh man, I have no idea. I looked back at some of the other dates I listed and to be honest, nothing will be ETCHED. But there are some dates I'd like to remember. August 6th was the beginning of my big road trip. July 27, the guys got me a cake and said goodbye to me at work, it was super sweet and cute. April 3 was the beginning of 10,000 steps a day with the few exceptions.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I guess losing 30 lbs? Maybe writing two novels. Possibly getting across the US without killing my mother.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not reading enough! I started a 31 in 31 challenge for myself, and failed to complete it (only got to... well 17 books at the moment, but I fully intend on finishing at least one more, if not two). And the reason I decided to go about this challenge was cause all these "best of 2014" lists are coming out and I have read startling few for a person who professes a desire to be a part of the industry. Terrible! Anyways, it's been a month full of reading at the very least.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Nope!

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
Ummm... no idea. I bought myself my UP band, and a new kindle cause my old one died. Those were quality purchases.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I don't know. This year has gotten pretty blurry.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Um... some of my friends turned out to be flakes and that was upsetting. But I don't know really. I have feelings, but I am also the only person who is going to be looking out for myself.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Saving for my life in LA. All of it is gone already.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving! Traveling and seeing the world, and man, guys, American sites are amazing and cool.

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
Follow My Feet - The Unlikely Candidates

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
middling. But I think that's kind of cause of
b) fatter or skinner? skinner! Lost 30 lbs since last year. And now have to work on that further, but I seem to be stuck at the moment. I am thinking of restarting the food tracking as best as I can.
c) richer or poorer? poorer. It's what you get for not having a job.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading. Writing. I wrote a lot, but I wish I had done way more.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating. Ugh, but food is so delicious.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
I read. I skyped with the parents, and then read all day and took a walk and then read some more.

21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
Ha.

22. How many one night stands?
Further ha.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Brooklyn 99 -- I started watching it randomly and fell intensely in love with it for some reason. It might just be something about the brand of humor, and the idea that Michael Shur talked about in Amy's book, of the heart warming feeling you want to illicit with comdey TV.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

25. What was the best book you read?
Oh god, I don't even know. I guess, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and the ensuing series? Except I just found Gail Carriager and the Finishing School series and I'm super in love with it and I can't decide if I love it more than DoSaB.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year?
I guess Bastille? I really want to say coming into my love of Taylor Swift and owning it -- like EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. Seriously.

27. What did you want and get?
All the things.

28. What did you want and not get?
A publishing contract. It's fine, I'm working on it.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
You know, I think I'm gonna go with Captain America 2. I know, surprising, but still, it really spoke to me.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
26, and this year was pretty good even if I woke up and knew I was sick. Alexandra came over and we played Forbidden Island/Desert, and then had strawberry shortcake cake from whole foods which was a million times delicious. Then Kat and Alex had to go to rehearsal. I was going to try and get to the beach, but being sick, I knew it wasn't going to happen. I would just be grumpy the whole time. It was a good birthday though!

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Money. HAHAHAHA. No, it would just help my general panic about life and doing what I'm doing to have a job.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
Well, once I moved to LA, it became the work out gear, all the time. I mean to say, I only wear work out tops now and I wear jeans only when I absolutely have to. It's kind of nice, but probably should not be what I do.

33. What kept you sane?
Writing. The kittens. Puzzling.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ummmmm... Jesse Williams? God, I love that man. Also Eva Green cause of things. I'm not actually into Taylor Swift, but I had a bit where I wanted her to be a lesbian, mostly because I feel like she'd have a whole lot less heartbreak if she dated girls. I mean, I just feel like she needs someone to be not a gross boy to her.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Ferguson and ebola. I didn't stir at all, but they certainly didn't help with the horror and pain I feel about the universe.

36. Who did you miss?
I don't know? People?

37. Who was the best new person you met?
ALEXANDRA. She's awesome and an INTP and we clicked really fast, and basically all the awesomeness.

38. What was the best thing you ate?
SOUP DUMPLINGS

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014?
Take care of yourself cause no one else is going to do it? I have some problems with this, cause my general outlook on life is that I want to treat people the way I want to be treated, but then the outlook of taking care of yourself cause no one else is going to makes it much harder, cause I don't want to be "every man is an island". I guess there's a certain amount of balancing it that comes with the territory. Basically -- balance.
